Why AVA and not Live Nation or AEG?

Expanded reach, access to more programming!  The Live Nation and AEG business models both rely upon and survive because of exclusivity.  This means that when a venue is owned or managed by one of them, they are the exclusive producer of concerts and other events in that venue.  While there may be value to this at times, the actual result is easy to see -- if you give exclusivity to one over the other, by default you are eliminating access to shows by the other promoter.

By contrast, AVA's venues are operated as "open buildings", meaning that we offer access to our properties to all producers, widening the access to programming and increasing the variety and quality of events.  In addition, AVA's affiliated company "AVA Presents" also promotes and produces concerts, adding another level of access to concerts and events, even if/when LN or AEG pass on opportunities.

How will improvements to the building be paid for?

While the extent of required repairs and desired improvements remains uncertain at this time, AVA proposes that any and all necessary repairs and upgrades be paid for through a combination of sources.  First, AVA will contribute resources privately, and the expectation would be that a combination of resources from the City & County's toolbox could be deployed for other uses.  For instance, TIF, PIF, PAB, and other resources would be expected to be used, while other sources like tax credits, private donations could be included.

Until such time as the scope of work is defined, and a timeline and costs determined, it it impossible to strictly identify what resources would be used.

What happens if AVA can't secure the funds or other resources necessary to do the work?

While AVA believes it is in a position to undertake this effort, and has access to the resources necessary to see the project through, in a worst-case scenario, the City of Colorado Springs could retake possession of the building, but with a reasonable and achievable plan and path forward in place to renovate and operate the venue, and without further City monies having been wasted than has already been spent.

This is not a result AVA can envision happening.

In the unlikely event that AVA is unable to complete the project, more likely result would be the the City of Colorado Springs and AVA could come to terms under which the City would retake possession of the property, but AVA could stand in the shoes of venue operator on behalf of the City, and operate the property safely and responsbly on the City's behalf.  While not ideal, this result would at least solve for the fact that Colorado Springs has not governmental department or agency that is tasked with the day-to-day booking and operations of venues.
